The fasting or Glucose blood sugar test is used to measure glucose levels in the blood. It is used to help in screening for and diagnosing diabetes mellitus; evaluating carbohydrate metabolism disorders including alcoholism; evaluating acidosis and ketoacidosis and evaluating dehydration, coma, hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia.
