Prostate Cancer Quiz

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in American men, other than skin cancer according to the American Cancer Society. But outside a certain dread of annual digital examinations as we get older, there’s still a lot of questions surrounding this cancer. We put together this quick video quiz to test your knowledge.

Prostate Cancer Quiz

Let’s jump right in.

1. First off, what is the prostate gland?

Is it a) a small gland that is part of the reproductive system b) a gland that starts out the size of a walnut and can grow to be the size of a lemon as men age c) a gland that helps make semen or d) all of the above?

We figured we’d start out easy. It’s D) all of the above. The gland rests below the bladder and surrounds parts of the urethra, which is the tube that carries urine from your bladder.

2. Are all prostate cancers the same?

Do you think it’s Yes or No? If you think they are all the same, you are incorrect. The speed of cancer growth varies. Some cancers grow slowly and don’t cause any harm. Others grow quickly and can spread to other parts of the body.

This next question should be easy for all of you that have been regularly reading our blog posts. No pressure.

3. What celebrity accredits the taking of a PSA blood test with saving his life when it discovered he had prostate cancer?

Is it a) George Clooney b) Ricky Gervais c) Ben Stiller or did we pull a fast one and it’s d) all of the above?

As our blog readers know, we did not pull a fast one. It’s c) Ben Stiller. If you haven’t already, you should read that post. It’s a good story. Happy ending.

Moving right along.

4. At what age does the risk of getting cancer increase dramatically?

Is it a) 40 years old b) 50 years old c) 60 years old or d) age is not a risk factor?

For most men, this should be another easy one. That aforementioned annual digital exam usually starts at 50. So, the answer is B. Age is actually the strongest risk factor in whether you’re likely to get prostate cancer.

Almost done. How you doing?

5. What are your chances of getting prostate cancer?

Is it a) 7% b) 14% c) 28% or d) 36%?

It’s B again according to the American Cancer Society. 14 out of 100 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer during their life.

6. Which is NOT a symptom of prostate cancer

Is it a) Lump on the testicles b) Problems urinating c) Erectile dysfunction d) Loss of bladder or bowel control?

If you guessed A, you get an A on the question. There’s no external symptom of prostate cancer. That’s a symptom of testicular cancer though. So, if you have one of those, see a doctor!

Final question.

7. If you are diagnosed with prostate cancer, will you die?

Is the answer Yes or No? Which do you think it is? Again from the American Cancer Society, it’s No. Most men with prostate cancer do not die from it. In fact, more than 209 million men in the U.S. have gotten the diagnosis and are still alive today!

So, that’s it! How did you do? Let us know in the comments or on our Facebook & Twitter pages. Until next time.
