A complement C3 serum test from Walk-In Lab is used to determine whether deficiencies or abnormalities in the proteins part of the complement system are contributing to increased infections or increased autoimmune activity. Additionally, this blood test is used to monitor the activity of autoimmune diseases.

No fasting is required when preparing for the complement C3 test, and patients typically receive results within two to three days. This blood test is also known as C3, C3 (β1C/β1A Globulin) and C3 Complement. For those without insurance or a doctor’s order, the complement C3 test is a cost-friendly and confidential substitute.

The Complements are tested when patients have recurrent microbial (usually bacterial) infections, unexplained edema or inflammation, or autoimmune disorder-related symptoms. The complement C3 test is also used to help monitor acute or chronic conditions that affect the complement system. Increased and decreased complement levels alone will not tell a health professional what is wrong, but they provide an indication on whether or not the immune system is involved with the patient’s condition. Complement levels  increase with inflammation, rising before other markers such as the erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) and C-reactive protein (CRP).
