This test may be used as an aid in monitoring bone resorption changes of antiresorptive therapies in postmenopausal women, individuals with osteopenia, and in predicting skeletal response (bone mineral density) in postmenopausal women undergoing antiresorptive therapies.

It is a peptide fragment from the carboxy terminal end of the protein matrix; used to monitor anti-resorptive therapies, such as bisphosphonates and hormone replacement therapy, in postmenopausal women and people with low bone mass (osteopenia)
