Description

What is the purpose of this test?

Order this Cardiolipin Antibodies Blood Test, IgA, IgG, and IgM, which detects antibodies in the blood and investigates inappropriate blood clot formation, recurrent miscarriage, antiphospholipid syndrome, and other autoimmune diseases.

Cardiolipin antibodies are a specific type of autoantibody that recognizes and binds to cardiolipins, which are phospholipids found in cell membranes and platelets. Cardiolipin antibodies have been linked to several medical conditions and complications, including an increased risk of thrombosis, or the formation of blood clots in veins and arteries. This occurs because the antibodies interfere with the body's ability to regulate blood clotting, leading to excessive clot formation. Additionally, cardiolipin antibodies have been associated with thrombocytopenia, a condition in which there are too few platelets in the blood, as well as recurrent miscarriages, premature labor, and pre-eclampsia in pregnant women.

Cardiolipin antibodies are a type of antiphospholipid antibody, which are autoantibodies that target phospholipids in general. These antibodies can cause excessive clotting and may be associated with autoimmune diseases such as lupus. When cardiolipin antibodies are present along with other antiphospholipid antibodies, and there is evidence of inappropriate blood clot formation or recurrent miscarriages, a diagnosis of antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) may be made. This condition can have severe consequences for patients, and early detection and treatment are critical for preventing complications.
