What is the purpose of this test?

Order this Hemoglobin (Hb), Free, Qualitative, Urine Test, which screens for hemoglobinuria by detecting hemoglobin in a urine sample. Hemoglobin, a protein molecule, is an essential component of red blood cells, responsible for transporting oxygen throughout the body. These cells have an average lifespan of about 120 days, after which they undergo a breakdown in the spleen, bone marrow, and liver, ultimately producing the components necessary for creating new red blood cells. However, if this process occurs within the bloodstream, the components may circulate freely, leading to complications. If the levels of hemoglobin in the blood become too high, it may result in a condition called hemoglobinuria, characterized by the presence of hemoglobin in the urine.
