Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) is a type of bacteria. These germs can enter your body and live in your digestive tract. It weakens the stomach's natural protective lining making it more susceptible to damage from gastric acid.  After many years, they can cause sores, called ulcers, in the lining of your stomach or the upper part of your small intestine. For some people, an infection can lead to stomach cancer.

Test Includes: Immunoassay for Helicobacter pylori. This test is used to establish the presence and possible etiologic role of Helicobacter pylori in cases of chronic gastric ulcer, gastritis, duodenal ulcer, dyspepsia. Only appropriately collected, contained and transported specimens can be delivered. Please contact your local LabCorp facility for proper specimen containment and transport procedures.

Ingestion of antimicrobials, proton pump inhibitors, and bismuth preparations prior to collection may result in a false negative as these can suppress h pylori.
