Alternaria Alternata Allergy IgE Blood Test
The alternaria alternata allergy blood test measures the amount of allergen-specific IgE antibodies in the blood in order to detect an allergy to alternaria alternata.
Description
The most common species of alternaria fungus is alternaria alternata. It grows typically on various plants and trees outdoors, but in dark, moist conditions, it can thrive indoors. Alternaria spores may cause allergy symptoms in individuals, particularly those with underlying respiratory conditions. In the spring and fall seasons, spore counts are usually highest.
An immune-system response in the body causes allergies. The body views certain substances as toxic and produces IgE antibodies to these contaminants. These antibodies cause cells to produce histamines that cause allergic reaction symptoms.
Common symptoms of an allergic reaction may include:
- Coughing
- Itchy watery eyes
- Runny nose
- Sneezing
- Skin rash
