Entamoeba Histolytica Antibody (IgG)
Order an Entamoeba histolytica antibody test to detect if you have antibodies in your blood to the Entamoeba histolytica parasite.
Entamoeba histolytica is a parasite that causes the disease amebiasis. Amebiasis can occur when the entamoeba histolytica parasite gets into your digestive system. This may occur after you eat food, drink water, or put anything in your mouth that has been contaminated with the parasite.
What are the symptoms of amebiasis infections?
In most cases, amebiasis infections do not cause any symptoms. When symptoms occur they may include fever, weight loss, stomach aches and cramps, and watery or bloody diarrhea.
Who should get tested?
Amebiasis infections are generally more common in countries that have poor sanitation practices. Your healthcare provider may recommend testing if you have traveled to countries with poor sanitation and are exhibiting any of the associated symptoms of amebiasis infection.
What will my test results tell me?
If antibodies to Entamoeba histolytica are detected during your testing, it may indicate an active or recent amebiasis infection. Be sure to share your results with your healthcare provider so they can help you determine the next steps in your care.
Are there any risks involved in getting this test?
