Test Code:

DDHUMAP

Methodology:

Specimen:

Urine

Preparation:

Ship Monday - Friday only to avoid delays. Patients should stop the usage of oral and sublingual hormones for at least 72 hours prior to and during the collection. Patients should also avoid alcohol, caffeine, tobacco, or nicotine-containing products and strenuous exercise for at least 24 hours prior to and during collection. It is recommended to avoid all supplements and medications until after all samples have been collected. Make sure to consult with your healthcare provider before stopping any medications.

Test Results:

5-7 business days once the lab receives the specimen. May take longer based on weather, holiday, or lab delays.

What is the purpose of this test?

Order this Hormone and Urinary Metabolites Assessment Profile (HuMapTM), a non-invasive way to assess steroid hormones, their metabolites, and the enzymes that break them down. It involves collecting 4 or 5 separate urine samples and can provide a comprehensive overview of hormone breakdown in the liver. This test can also help identify areas of interest related to the conjugation of each metabolite. By testing urinary hormone metabolites, it can give insight into endogenous hormone secretion, supplemental hormone utilization, enzyme activity, oxidative stress, and how the body metabolizes hormones.

The HuMapTM tool displays the corticoids pathway, which shows the connection between cortisol and cortisone and their metabolites. Maintaining a proper balance of these hormones is crucial to prevent excessive cortisol production that can cause damage. The "daily metabolized cortisol" calculation provides the most accurate estimation of cortisol output based on various factors.

Knowing whether you prefer 5-alpha or 5-beta is essential for your overall health. High levels of 5α-reductase can convert testosterone into 5α-DHT, causing hair loss and acne due to higher androgen levels. Aromatase activity is crucial for both males and females, increasing estrogens in males and being the primary source of estrogens in postmenopausal females. Understanding aromatase activity can identify the root cause of lower testosterone and estrogen dominance.

HuMapTM allows for measuring progesterone and its metabolites, which is particularly useful for practitioners prescribing oral progesterone. This can track metabolism and provide insights into endogenous cortisol and corticosterone production.
