Description

Ordering a liver function blood test from Walk-in Labs is a fast, convenient, and affordable way to monitor liver health.

The liver is an organ that is part of the digestive system and serves many important functions that contribute to maintaining overall health. Liver function includes filtering out harmful toxins in the body, synthesizing proteins, and producing enzymes needed for digestion. The liver is a vital organ; there is no long-term substitute to compensate for a non-functioning liver. Early detection of blood abnormalities related to the functions of the liver is especially important because liver damage is particularly difficult to recover from fully. Yearly blood testing of the liver is recommended for all adults and more frequent testing is recommended for individuals who are at a high risk for liver dysfunction, such as those who have a metabolic disorder, Reye’s syndrome, hepatitis B, or tuberculosis.

Many medications and alcohol consumption, may adversely affect your liver function. Other implications include liver injury, some cancers, and hepatitis.

Hepatic Tests Include:

Albumin
Alkaline Phosphatase
Alanine Transaminase (ALT) (SGPT)
Aspartate Transaminase (AST) (SGOT)
Bilirubin, Total
Bilirubin, Direct
Protein, Total

Gamma-Glutamyl Transferase (GGT): The GGT test aids in detecting liver and bile duct injury. Some health professionals use it in all people they suspect of having liver disease, while others use it only to help explain the cause of other changes or if they suspect alcohol abuse.

Lactic acid dehydrogenase (LDH) or (LD): Lactic acid dehydrogenase is an enzyme that helps produce energy. It is present in almost all of the tissues in the body and becomes elevated in response to cell damage.

Total Cholesterol: Blood test to measure lipids-fats and fatty substances used as a source of energy by your body.
