Notice:This test can only be added to the Essential Estrogens – Hormone Test FMV (GD4209), Essential Estrogens – Hormone Test 24-Hour (GD4210), and Women’s Health+ (GD4121) test kits. It cannot be ordered as a standalone test.
What is the purpose of this test?
The Genova Diagnostics SNP – CYP1A1 Buccal Swab Add-On Test Kit analyzes genetic variations in the CYP1A1 (cytochrome P450 1A1) gene, a key enzyme involved in Phase I detoxification and estrogen metabolism. CYP1A1 plays an important role in the bioactivation and clearance of estrogens, environmental toxins, and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) found in air pollution, cigarette smoke, and charred foods.
Identifying variations in the CYP1A1 gene helps clinicians understand how efficiently an individual processes estrogens and environmental exposures, which can influence hormone balance, oxidative stress, and long-term health risk. This information is particularly valuable when interpreting hormone metabolite patterns and guiding targeted detoxification and lifestyle support.
Benefits of the SNP – CYP1A1 Buccal Swab Add-On Test Kit
- Targeted Genetic Insight: Identifies variations in the CYP1A1 gene that affect Phase I detoxification and estrogen metabolism.
- Personalized Hormone & Detox Support: Helps guide individualized recommendations for cruciferous vegetables, phytonutrients (such as sulforaphane), antioxidants, and lifestyle modifications that support estrogen clearance.
- Environmental Sensitivity Assessment: Provides insight into how efficiently the body processes environmental toxins, smoke-related compounds, and other chemical exposures.
- Context for Estrogen Metabolite Testing: Complements urinary estrogen metabolite results by explaining genetic influences on estrogen pathway activity and metabolite balance.
- Precision-Guided Care: Supports a personalized, systems-based approach to hormone balance, detoxification capacity, and long-term wellness planning.
