Description

Wheat allergy is an allergic reaction to foods that contain wheat. A reaction can occur when wheat is ingested or by inhaling wheat flour. Wheat Allergy will sometimes get mistaken for celiac disease, but these conditions are quite different. In people with celiac disease, the protein gluten that is found in wheat causes an irregular immune system response.  Abstaining from wheat is the essential treatment for wheat allergy.

Wheat Allergy Symptoms include:

•   Swelling, itching, or irritation of the mouth or throat.

•   Nasal Congestion

•   Headache

•   Itchy, watery eyes

•   Hives, rash or swelling of the skin

•   Difficulty breathing

•   Nausea or vomiting

•   Diarrhea

•   Anaphylaxis

The immune system makes antibodies to protect the body against bacteria, viruses, and allergens.  IgE antibodies are normally present in small quantities in the blood but can be detected in higher concentrations when the body overreacts to allergens.  The IgE antibodies differ depending on what they respond to.  An allergen-specific IgE examination will explain what the body responds to.
