What is the purpose of this test?

The Beta 2 Microglobulin Serum Test is a diagnostic tool that can assess the severity and prognosis of multiple myeloma, leukemia, and lymphoma. Additionally, it can also identify kidney damage and distinguish between various kidney disorders.

Individuals diagnosed with multiple myeloma may be required to undergo this test to determine the extent of their illness. The test can also be conducted regularly to monitor the disease's progression and the treatment's effectiveness. Occasionally, individuals with myeloma or lymphoma may take this test to ascertain their likely prognosis.

The B2M blood test is useful in detecting kidney damage, assessing specific types of cancer, and monitoring those who have been exposed to cadmium. It can differentiate between glomerular and tubular kidney disorders. Elevated B2M levels suggest a problem, but not a specific illness or condition.

When should I order a Beta 2 Microglobulin Serum Test?

Individuals may order this test if they have been diagnosed with multiple myeloma, chronic lymphocytic leukemia, or certain types of lymphoma. You may need a B2M test to find out how severe your disease is. In addition, individuals experiencing symptoms related to kidney dysfunction may find this test helpful.

Common signs or symptoms of lymphoma may include:

  • Painless swelling of lymph nodes in your neck, armpits, or groin
  • Chronic fatigue
  • Fever
  • Night sweats
  • Shortness of breath
  • Sudden weight loss
  • Itchiness
