Bananas make the perfect snack or breakfast smoothie.  Yet some people might be wise to stay away from consuming them.  A banana allergy could be present at birth or developed later in life.  People who are allergic to bananas could also be allergic to latex.  This is due to a protein in latex also being found in some fruit and nuts; this includes bananas.

Depending on how severe your allergy is, you could see signs and symptoms soon after ingesting a banana.  Possible symptoms include:

•  Shortness of breath

•  Sneezing and runny nose

•  Hives

•  Swelling or itching of the throat, lips, and tongue

•  Vomiting, abdominal pain, or diarrhea

•  Red, swollen, or itchy eyes
