Description

What is the purpose of this test?

Order this Cyclic Citrullinated Peptide (CCP) Antibody Blood Test, IgG, which detects and measures CCP antibodies in the blood to screen for rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Cyclic citrullinated peptide (CCP) antibodies are a specific type of antibody produced by the immune system called an autoantibody. While most antibodies help the immune system combat illness by identifying and neutralizing foreign substances like bacteria and viruses, autoantibodies do not perform this critical immune function.

Instead, autoantibodies mistakenly target and attack the body’s healthy cells and tissues. CCP antibodies are detected in most individuals with RA. While less common, CCP antibodies may be seen in other autoimmune disorders, including Sjögren’s syndrome and lupus. Positive results for CCP antibodies can also occur in individuals with tuberculosis (TB) and chronic lung disease.

When should I order a Cyclic Citrullinated Peptide (CCP) Antibody Blood Test, IgG?

Individuals may order this test if they have experienced symptoms associated with rheumatoid arthritis. Common signs or symptoms of RA include the following:

  • Fever
  • Rash
  • Fatigue
  • Loss of appetite
