Description

Human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) is a hormone made by the placenta after implantation.

A qualitative blood hCG test is ordered as early as 10 days after a missed menstrual period in order to confirm whether or not there is pregnancy.

Along with a missed period, the early signs and symptoms of pregnancy may include:

  • Tender, swollen breasts.
  • Nausea with or without vomiting.
  • Increased urination.
  • Fatigue.
  • Food distaste or cravings.
