hCG (Pregnancy) Blood Test, Qualitative
hCG blood test is used to confirm pregnancy.
Description
Human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) is a hormone made by the placenta after implantation.
A qualitative blood hCG test is ordered as early as 10 days after a missed menstrual period in order to confirm whether or not there is pregnancy.
Along with a missed period, the early signs and symptoms of pregnancy may include:
- Tender, swollen breasts.
- Nausea with or without vomiting.
- Increased urination.
- Fatigue.
- Food distaste or cravings.
