Carbon monoxide is a colorless odorless gas that can be poisonous when breathed.  Carbon monoxide inhalation prevents your brain from receiving oxygen, which can cause serious health problems and can be fatal. Carbon monoxide exposure sources may include exhaust from vehicles, gas burning equipment such as stoves and water heaters that are not properly installed, cigarette smoke and fuel burning equipment such as heaters and grills.

Common symptoms of exposure to Carbon Monoxide can include:

  • dizziness
  • headache
  • nausea
  • blurred vision
  • confusion
  • sleepiness
  • weakness

This test is typically taken when someone has symptoms of CO exposure, particularly if they live or work in an environment where the risk of CO exposure is high. A CO test can also be carried out to assess the health effects of a person who smokes regularly.
