A Folate Blood Test is useful for detecting folate deficiency, monitoring therapy with folate, and evaluating megaloblastic and macrocytic anemia
Folate is fundamental for your body to produce new red blood cells. These are needed to transport oxygen to your organs, and not having enough red blood cells can lead to anemia.
Folate is often measured at two levels
- plasma (or serum) which will show short-term folate absorption
- RBC Folate which will determine the long-term folate absorption
