Testosterone Free (Dialysis) and Total Testosterone Test, LC/MS/MS
The testosterone free (dialysis) and total testosterone test determines the level of free and total testosterone. The levels reported for this test are determined using different methodologies than the normal free and total testosterone tests.
Description
Order a testosterone free (dialysis) and total testosterone test to measure the level of free and total testosterone in the blood. This test uses different methodologies to report results rather than the normal methodologies used for free and total testosterone tests.
Low or high levels of free testosterone can cause health issues in both men and women. Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), a disorder characterized by infertility, lack of menstruation, acne, and excessive hair development, particularly on the face, may be present in women with high levels of free testosterone. Men with low free testosterone levels can lose their sex drive, experience bone loss, or become infertile.
This test includes testosterone, total MS, and testosterone, free (dialysis).
Total testosterone: A hormone that gives shape to masculine attributes. The male blood level is used to research irregular sexual development and sexual dysfunction. Small quantities are produced in the female ovaries; the blood level is used to determine virilization. A drop in testosterone levels can lead to weight gain, muscle mass loss, moodiness, and decreased libido.
Testosterone, Free (Dialysis): Tests the amount of testosterone that is not bound to any other blood chemicals. This measurement may be used to assist in the assessment of testicular function when cirrhosis, thyroid disorders, or obesity may affect testosterone-binding proteins.
