Order this Cardio IQ® Advanced Lipid Panel to assess your risk for cardiovascular disease (CVD) or monitor your response to treatment. While routine lipid profiles measure your overall cholesterol levels, bad cholesterol (LDL), good cholesterol (HDL), and triglycerides to evaluate your risk of cardiovascular disease, they do not thoroughly evaluate your overall health. Nearly half of all patients with normal cholesterol levels have underlying heart risks due to plaque build-up in their arteries, but it can go undetected by some standard lipid profiles. However, advanced lipid testing can help your healthcare address additional risk factors for CVD, monitor your body’s reaction to treatment (medications or lifestyle changes), and help diagnose other underlying conditions like liver disease.
It should be noted that certain factors may increase your risk of CVD and require more frequent screenings. These high-risk factors include:
- Men age 45+ and women 50-55
- Dyslipidemia
- Diabetes or prediabetes
- Obesity or overweight
- Inactive lifestyle
- Hypertension
- Smoking
- Previous heart attack or stroke
- Family history of cardiovascular disease
This Cardio IQ® Advanced Lipid Panel consists of a standard lipid profile and additional blood biomarkers identifying CVD risks across a broader range. For example, the Apolipoprotein B test included in this panel can measure the amount and size of atherogenic particles that have the potential to cause cardiovascular disease. In addition, the Lipoprotein Fractionation, Ion Mobility test provides straightforward and accurate measurement of lipoprotein particles. This detailed information may help your healthcare provider develop a more targeted treatment plan to reduce your risks over time.
