More Details

What is the purpose of this test?

This comprehensive panel screens for seven common sexually transmitted diseases while simultaneously assessing overall health through eight additional blood and urine markers. The test supports early detection of infections like HIV, hepatitis, syphilis, chlamydia, gonorrhea, and herpes, plus provides insights into kidney function, liver health, iron levels, and autoimmune status. Early identification allows for prompt treatment and prevents serious complications (CDC 2021).

Who would benefit from this test?

Sexually active adults, especially those with new or multiple partners, benefit most from this comprehensive screening. The CDC recommends regular STD testing for individuals under 25, those with risk factors, or anyone experiencing symptoms (CDC 2021). Healthcare-conscious individuals seeking preventive care without insurance requirements also find this panel valuable for maintaining sexual and overall health awareness.

When should I order this test?

Order this test after possible STD exposure, when experiencing symptoms like unusual discharge or genital sores, or as part of routine annual screening if sexually active. The CDC suggests annual testing for sexually active individuals, or every 3-6 months for higher-risk populations (CDC 2021). Consider testing before new relationships or if your partner has tested positive for an STD.

How do I interpret the results?

Each test component has established reference ranges that indicate normal versus abnormal results. Your physician-reviewed results will clearly mark any values outside normal parameters.

STD markers

  • Normal Range: Negative/Non-reactive
  • Abnormal Result Action: Consult provider for treatment

Liver enzymes

  • Normal Range: Within lab reference
  • Abnormal Result Action: Evaluate liver function

Kidney markers

  • Normal Range: Within lab reference
  • Abnormal Result Action: Assess kidney health

Blood counts

  • Normal Range: Within lab reference
  • Abnormal Result Action: Investigate underlying causes

Early STD treatment can reduce serious complication risk by up to 70% (CDC 2021).

Disclaimer: Reference ranges may vary by laboratory. Listed ranges are general guidelines and may differ from those used by the performing lab. Always consult your healthcare provider for interpretation.

Pre-test preparation

No fasting is required for this panel. Avoid urinating for at least one hour before your appointment to maximize pathogen detection in urine samples. Inform your healthcare provider about any medications or antibiotics you're taking, as these may affect certain test results. Stay hydrated and follow standard pre-test instructions provided by the laboratory.

How often should I get tested?

Testing frequency depends on your risk factors and sexual activity patterns.

  • Sexually active adults – Annually
  • Multiple or new partners – Every 3–6 months
  • High-risk behaviors – Every 3 months
  • After potential exposure – 2–6 weeks post-exposure
  • Previous STD diagnosis – As recommended by provider

Why early detection matters

Untreated STDs cause over $16 billion in annual healthcare costs and can lead to serious complications including infertility, chronic pain, and increased HIV risk (CDC 2023). Many STDs remain asymptomatic initially, making regular screening crucial for early intervention. With over 2.5 million new cases of chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis reported in 2022, proactive testing helps break transmission chains and protects both personal and public health (CDC 2023).
