Coagulation, also known as clotting, is the process in which blood will change forms from liquid to gel, and will prohibit excessive bleeding when you injure yourself.  The blood that is running through your veins, on the contrary, should not clot. If these clots reach your heart, lungs, or brain; the result could be fatal.  Common tests used to detect clots are the Prothrombin Time (PT) w/INR, the D-Dimer Blood Test, and the Fibrinogen Activity Blood Test.
