The Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV) antibodies blood test aids in the diagnosing of an EBV infection. Epstein-Bar Virus (EBV) is the most prevalent cause of mononucleosis (mono) infection if an individual if they are symptomatic but has a negative mono test.  These tests may be ordered for someone who has had prior exposure to EBV or is prone to a primary EBV infection.

The VCA-IgG antibody will appear during an acute infection.  The highest level will be at 2-4 weeks.  It will then drop, maintain, and then be present for life.  

Symptoms include:

Extreme fatigue or weakness
Headache
Sore Throat
Fever
Swollen lymph glands in the neck, armpits, spleen or liver
